Below are some links to some sermons delivered at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Lowcountry, in Bluffton,
South Carolina.
A brief note before you read. Please keep in mind that these sermons were written
to be delivered orally, to be heard and not read. This means two things. First, when I write a sermon I am not
taking a future reader into consideration and so do not include notes on inflection and tone and do not carry forward reading
and music the original audience may have experienced and may have given meaning to something barely referenced in the sermon.
Thus, subtle attempts of humor made evident to the audience by tone and inflection may easily be misconstrued as insulting
or derogatory to the reader. Please keep this in mind and read with an open mind and inquiring spirit.
The
second important thing to remember about these sermons, is that they were not written for publication. References to
other texts are often vague and on occasion even nonexistent. Some references may be to other readings the audience
heard and were there attributed to the corresponding person or text. While I try to reference at least an author or
text for those things I quote directly, it is usually incomplete at best. Again, this is due to the nature of sermons.
Should I be caught misquoting an author or text, please consider my hand slapped and I will do better next time. If
I should be caught quoting an author or text without reference, please consider that it may be have handled in another part
of the service that is not here included.
